Sraboni Ahmed Jui's Bengali poem "Jol"

আমি জল ভালবাসতাম
আর তোমাকেও
তুমি ছিলে আদিগন্ত অদেখা এক হ্রদ
তোমার জলে চাঁদ ডুবে যায়, কুয়াশা পথ হারায়!
আমি জলজ জীবন ভালবাসতাম
শ্যাওলায় আবৃত তোমাকেও,
তোমার নিস্তরঙ্গ শরীর জুড়ে জলের ঘ্রাণ
শতবর্ষী বটের মত, আধডোবা সিঁড়ির মত।
আমি জলের চোখে দেখেছি প্রেম
নিম্নগামী প্লবতায় তোমাকেও
তোমার হৃদয় জুড়ে মাধ্যাকর্ষণ
তুমি যেন এক অতলান্ত রহস্য!
আমি জল ভালবাসতাম
আর তোমাকেও
তোমার বুকে শরতের আকাশ হয়ে
বিম্বিত হয়েছি প্রতি সূর্যে,
আশ্বিনের ঝড় হয়ে তোমায় ঘিরে করেছি মাতম!
চাঁদ জাগা রাত হয়ে তোমায় শুনিয়েছি
দুর নক্ষত্রের গান!
ভোরের কবিতায় বলেছি আরব্য রজনীর
না ফুরোন গল্প,
আমি জলের গল্পে তোমায় খুঁজেছি
আর তোমার পদ্মপাতার দুঃখও,
আমি জল ভালবাসি
গ্রহণ লাগা তোমাকেও
তোমার চোখের তারায় দুর সমুদ্র
অবগাহনের তৃষ্ণা জুড়ে ঝড়ের বার্তা!
শেষ হেমন্তে কৃষ্ণপক্ষের ভাঙা চাঁদে বিভ্রম লাগে
তুমি কি ফের মানুষ হয়েছিলে?!
আমি জল ভালবাসতাম
জলজোছনায় প্লাবিত তোমাকেও।।

Love for the water

I would like water
I would love you too.
You looked like a lake hidden in the horizon
In your water the moon sinks, the fog loses its course!
I was attached to the life of amphibians
You too, when you are covered with seaweed,
Your calm body smells of water
Like the very old banyan tree, the stairs half sunk.
I found love in the stream's eye
I also found you in down buoyancy
Your heart has a huge gravity
You are a kind of endless mystery.
I loved the water
You as well
I would reflect on each sunrise
Being the autumn sky in your bosom,
All around you, I cried like the 'Aswin' storm !
Waking up at night with the moon
I had you hear the songs of far off stars!
I told you the incomplete stories of the Arabian Night
In the morning poems or mine,

I looked for you in water tales,
I looked in your sorrow for the lotus leaf,
I loved the water
I loved you while you eclipsed.
In your eyes the inaccessible ocean
In which you like to dive looked like a bad omen,
In late autumn, it's the broken moon of a dark fortnight.
Have you changed in a human being once again?!
I was an admirer of water,
I loved you as you immersed in the watery moon flickers.
